Octeasy for dyslexia
The "Read easily" profile changes the font, the spacing and the page background in one click, so the text takes less effort to read. Visitors stay in control: they can keep some of the settings and adjust the others.
In the panel, choose the "Read easily" profile.
What the "Read easily" profile turns on
- Font designed for dyslexia (OpenDyslexic)
- Wider line height (level 2)
- Increased letter spacing
- Increased word spacing
- Text aligned left, without justification
- Cream background, less glaring than white
What your site needs to do on its side
- Write short sentences, one idea per sentence.
- Avoid justified text, which creates uneven gaps between words.
- Avoid long passages in italics or capital letters.
- Let visitors increase spacing without breaking the page: this is a WCAG criterion (1.4.12, Text Spacing).
The limits, honestly
- Not every dyslexic reader finds the same font comfortable: that is why it remains a choice and is never imposed.
- The font only loads when a visitor chooses it, from the Octeasy server.
- Octeasy does not make a site meet accessibility standards such as WCAG or the French accessibility standard (RGAA), and does not replace an audit. What Octeasy does not do.
The other profiles
- See better (Low vision, eye strain)
- Stay focused (ADHD, attention disorders)
- Understand easily (Cognitive disorders, memory)
- Avoid motion (Epilepsy, migraine, vertigo)
- Reduce light (Photophobia, headaches)
- Click easily (Tremors, keyboard only)
- Senior comfort (Presbyopia, ageing eyes)
